Bandsaws are the most flexible power saws in the shop. They make most cuts a table saw can, but can cut them in wood six inches thick or more. They cut curves and joinery, resaw lumber, and are much safer than table saws for ripping and for cutting small pieces. But you've got to put in the right blade, set up the saw, and use it properly.
In this class you’ll learn to choose and install blades, adjust the saw, and operate it safely. You'll create a bandsawn box to take home. In the process you'll learn how to use sleds, which cut directions yield the smoothest results, and how to follow templates or cut freehand. You'll see how to cut curves without breaking blades or ruining your work.
You’ll discover how shop-built fixtures can add accuracy and eliminate measuring (and the attendant opportunities for errors). You'll learn to cut a blank in three dimensions to produce an almost-finished shape.
New to bandsaws? Come join us! You’ll have fun and leave with the ability to make some magic of your own on the bandsaw.
