Pens II - Turning Fancy Pens

Ready to take pen turning to the next level? Want to turn a masterpiece?
Perhaps you’ve turned several pens already, using various kits and exotic blanks. Now you can start making products you won’t see in craft fairs and catalogs. In this two-evening class, you’ll learn how to create, turn, and finish unique pens that include inlays of brass, aluminum, and wood veneers.
This class will cover:
  • Creating Celtic Knot and arc blanks with bandsaw fixtures
  • Inlaying decorative dots with drill press positioning fixtures
  • Making pinstripe blanks with routers and indexing fixtures
  • Creating the super durable, glass-like CA/BLO finish
  • Making twist pens without dividing lines in the middle
  • Using the Epilog laser to engrave your pens
This class is for people who already know how to make basic pens. If you can make a pen and turn a smooth cylinder, you’re ready. It takes off from where the introductory class, Turning Beautiful Pens, ends, and doesn’t repeat that material. Instead, it focuses on using routers, drill presses, and bandsaws to create blanks you can turn into amazing finished pens. It uses simple fixtures you can make yourself or purchase inexpensively to use in your own turning.

Come join us for a two-night exploration of exotic pen turning. In the intimate setting of a small class, you’ll get individual attention and learn general decorative techniques you can use in other aspects of your woodturning. Click below to reserve your spot.
